What is a Doula?

A community-based doula is a person trained in childbirth that provides emotional, physical, and informational support to help women have a safe, memorable and empowering birthing experience.

Our doulas work with pregnant women and establish a relationship that gives the mother freedom to ask questions, and express their fears and concerns.  Doulas answer questions or explain any developments that arise during pregnancy.

Doulas are not medical personnel but are knowledgeable in the aspect of labor and delivery.  They help women get a better understanding of procedures and complications that may arise in late pregnancy or delivery.
